The Unspoken Rule of Fisch's Bestiary
Rarity in Fisch isn't just RNG. It's RNG with conditions. Every Mythic and Legendary fish has a preferred bait, a favorite weather window, a specific time of day it's active, and a season it appears in. Miss one of those four conditions, and you can cast for six hours without a bite. Hit all four, and you'll wonder why you ever struggled.
The game doesn't tell you any of this. The bestiary menu shows silhouettes you haven't caught yet, but the conditions? You're supposed to figure those out by trial and error — or by reading a guide written by someone who already did the trial and error for you.
Mythic Fish: The 9 Rarest Catches
Mythic fish are the crown jewels of your bestiary. Each one has a specific island, specific bait, and specific weather/time combo. Here's every single one, in order of accessibility from Moosewood.
1. Ancient Depth Serpent
| Location | The Depths (requires Depths Key from Vertigo) |
| Bait | Truffle Worm (purchased from Merlin) |
| Weather | Foggy |
| Time | Night (8 PM – 4 AM) |
| Season | All seasons |
| Note | The hardest part isn't catching it — it's getting the Depths Key to drop. Farm Vertigo's whirlpool with a high-luck rod. Once you're in The Depths, the Serpent bites reliably on Truffle Worms in foggy conditions. |
2. Spectral Serpent
| Location | Brine Pool (inside The Depths) |
| Bait | Fish Head (crafted from 3 Common fish) |
| Weather | Clear |
| Time | Night |
| Season | Winter only |
| Note | The seasonal lock (Winter) combined with needing to be inside The Depths makes this one of the rarest catches in the game. If it's not Winter, don't waste your Truffle Worms — farm something else and come back. |
3. Colossal Squid
| Location | Roslit Bay (open ocean, not the reef) |
| Bait | Shrimp (buy from Roslit bait shop) |
| Weather | Rainy + Foggy (must have both) |
| Time | Night |
| Season | Fall & Winter |
| Note | Dual weather requirement makes this frustrating. Install a weather tracker or server-hop. When you see Rain + Fog at night in Fall/Winter at Roslit, drop everything and go. |
4. Megalodon
| Location | Ancient Isle (shark-infested waters on the east side) |
| Bait | Shark Head (crafted from any Shark-tier catch) |
| Weather | Clear |
| Time | Dawn (4 AM – 7 AM) |
| Season | Summer only |
| Note | The Megalodon hunt during the 2025 Shark Week event broke the Fisch Discord. It's back as a permanent Mythic in 2026, but the Dawn-only window means you get about 3 attempts per real-life session. Make them count. |
5. Void Leviathan
| Location | Vertigo (entrance via whirlpool near Moosewood) |
| Bait | Void Ember (rare drop from fishing in Vertigo) |
| Weather | Any |
| Time | Any |
| Season | All seasons |
| Note | The bottleneck is Void Embers. You need to fish in Vertigo to get them, and the drop rate is about 2%. Once you have one, the Leviathan will bite within 5-10 casts. Use a rod with high Resilience — this thing fights hard. |
6. Golden Manta Ray
| Location | Sunstone Island (north shore) |
| Bait | Seaweed (buy from Moosewood bait shop) |
| Weather | Clear + Daytime |
| Time | 10 AM – 4 PM |
| Season | Spring & Summer |
| Note | Golden Manta is rare but forgiving — wide weather window, wide season window, common bait. If you're just starting your Mythic hunt, this is the easiest one to target first. |
7–9: The Event Mythics
Three Mythic fish — Frostwhale, Blazing Tuna, and Eldritch Eel — rotate in and out with seasonal events. As of July 2026:
- Frostwhale: Winter event only (December–January). Northern Summit waters. Check the Fisch hub for event updates.
- Blazing Tuna: Summer event only (June–August). Roslit Volcano area. Currently active as of this writing.
- Eldritch Eel: Halloween event (October). The Depths — special variant. Off-season currently.
Legendary Fish: The 12 That Bridge Mid-Game to End-Game
Legendaries are your stepping stones. Easier than Mythics but still rare enough that seeing that golden exclamation mark pop up never gets old. Here are the 12 most-wanted, grouped by island.

The Bait Economy: Why You're Wasting Your Best Lures
Here's a mistake I see constantly: people using Truffle Worms for everything because "it's the best bait." Truffle Worms are rare and expensive. Using them on fish that prefer Shrimp is literally burning money. Each fish's preferred bait increases the odds of that specific fish biting — it doesn't universally boost rarity. The bait system is:
- Preferred bait: 3× increased bite rate for that specific fish
- Wrong bait: No penalty — you can catch it with anything
- No bait: Base rate (you're fishing naked — don't do this)
Moral: match the bait to the target, not to your best rod.
Server-Hopping: The Controversial Shortcut
If you need Foggy weather for an Ancient Depth Serpent and your server is Clear skies with no fog forecasted for the next 3 in-game days, you have a choice: wait (real-time: about 40 minutes per weather cycle) or server-hop. The Fisch community is split on whether server-hopping is "cheating." The game doesn't prevent it, so make your own call. But if you're 2 hours into a hunt with no progress, joining a new server with the right weather instantly resets your odds.
Quick Reference: The Big Three Conditions Per Target
If you remember nothing else from this guide, remember this: every rare fish has exactly one bottleneck that's harder than the rest. Find the bottleneck, solve it, and the fish will come:
- Ancient Depth Serpent: Bottleneck = Depths Key (farm Vertigo)
- Colossal Squid: Bottleneck = Dual weather (server-hop for Rain + Fog)
- Megalodon: Bottleneck = Dawn window (time your session)
- Void Leviathan: Bottleneck = Void Embers (grind in Vertigo first)
- Spectral Serpent: Bottleneck = Winter season (check your in-game calendar)
FAQ
Why did I fish for 2 hours and get zero Mythics?
Check three things: weather (does your target need Foggy/Rainy?), time (are you fishing at the right hour?), and bait (are you using the preferred bait?). If all three are correct and you still haven't caught it, the issue is your rod's luck stat. Upgrade to a rod with 40%+ luck and apply a Lucky or Divine enchant.
Can I catch Mythic fish without entering The Depths?
Yes — Colossal Squid (Roslit), Megalodon (Ancient Isle), Void Leviathan (Vertigo), and Golden Manta Ray (Sunstone) are all Depths-free. The Depths-exclusive Mythics are Ancient Depth Serpent and Spectral Serpent.
Do seasons change in-game?
Yes. Each in-game season lasts roughly 10 real-life days. You can check the current season in the bestiary menu. If your target requires Winter and it's Summer, you have two choices: wait (up to 30 real days for the rotation) or join a private server with a different season setting.
